Dr. Bose has been instrumental in building up a good number of innovative institution in the country which have stood the test of time.
The National Institute of Habitat Management (NIHM) has been conceived as a centre of excellence in research and academic training oriented to propagate cost-effective and environment friendly building technology.
The objectives of the Institute are:
- To create professional excellence in the field of housing and habitat planning.
- To undertake studies in the social, technological, economic and environmental problems related to habitat management.
- To undertake consultancy services in habitat development.
- To formulate and conduct academic programmes leading to Post Graduate Degrees and Diplomas.
The activities of the NIHM are organised under six divisions:
- Material Sciences
- Electronics in Housing
- Environmental Engineering
- Social Science
- Building and Technology
- Information, Education and Extension
The NIHM conducts:
- Diploma in Habitat Technology
- Advanced Diploma in Habitat Technology
- Master of Science in Habitat Technology in collaboration with Birla
The Institute is envisaged as a center of excellence in conducting studies and research in industrial relations and management and providing training and re-training to workers and management in tune with the requirements of national and international labour markets. It will be run with the active involvement of the tripartite stakeholders - employees, employers and the Government.
This is a scheme meant to provide ancillary medical facilities in district hospitals, medical college hospitals and taluk hospitals. The facilities provided would include ambulance services, dormitory facilities, power laundry, services of trained bystanders, rental facilities of specialised equipments, laboratories
Sanjivini Kendra seeks to preserve and promote the traditions of Ayurveda and indigenous medicine. The Kendra has a garden of medicinal plants and provides facilities for treatment in Ayurveda. It proposes to set up an Ayurveda research laboratory, hold academic discussions in various aspects of indigenous medicine etc. The first Sanjivini Kendra in the State was set up on the banks of Sasthamcotta lake.
For the propagation of habitat education, a new concept developed by the Global Nirmithi Net, a number of universities, R&D institutions and industries have jointly set up the Indian Council for Habitat Education with Dr.Bose as its Executive Vice President.
This is an imitative aimed at providing opportunities for young men and women, especially those who belong to the economically weaker session of the society to avail themselves of the increasing employment opportunities in para medical sciences institution have been created attached to the medical colleges and majour hospitals to provide quality education to the selected candidates. A network of these Institutions now function in Kerala ensuring training and placement since 1984.
Centre for competency Building is envisaged as an institution which would undertake capacity building and competency development in professional and job oriented fields such as IT, communication, financial services and other emerging areas which have demand in the national and international employment market. Set up in collaboration with universities and industry these centres are emerging as effective role models in co-operative education.
Centre for Printing Technology is envisaged as a centre for excellence in professional printing, networking universities and printing Industry.
The first District Tourism Promotion Council (DTPC) was set up in the Kollam district during Dr.Bose’s tenure as District Collector and Mayor there. This Council attempts to promote local initiative in tourism development. Tourism offers vast employment potential and this has been optimally utilised to benefit the villagers through the DTPC. The Government of Kerala studied this experiment at Kollam and decided to set up similar councils in all the districts of the State.
Cybersri is an initiative aimed at uplifting the educated belonging to the marginalized sections of the society such as the scheduled castes and tribes to the global IT industry by providing them industry experience, and implementing certified skills and global competencies. The Centre will produce e-learning software for educational Institutions.
