BIOGRAPHY

Dr. C.V. Ananda Bose IAS, senior civil servant, housing expert and innovator, was empanelled Secretary to Govt. of India, Additional Chief Secretary and University Vice Chancellor. He is Chairman of the Govt. of India Public Sector Undertakings, Central Warehousing Corporation & Central Railside Warehouse Company Ltd.

Fellow of the Lal Bahadur Shastri National Academy of Administration, Mussoorie (training centre of India’s top civil servants), Dr. Bose is also recipient of the prestigious Jawahar Lal Nehru Fellowship, instituted in memory of India’s first Prime Minister.

Dr. Bose has worked as Secretary to Chief Minister of Kerala, District Collector, Kollam and Principal Secretary in various Ministries such as Education, Forest and Environment, Labour, Parliamentary Affairs, General Administration and Revenue Board and Vice Chancellor. He was also Founder Director General of the Institute of Parliamentary Affairs,Head of India’s National Museum and Chairman of the Atomic Energy Education Society (AEES).

A prolific writer and columnist, Dr. Bose has published 20 books in English and Malayalam including novels, short stories, poems and essays. Some of his books have become best sellers.

He is the founder of many innovative movements and institutions in the field of affordable housing, good governance, science and technology. The pioneering institutions set up by him such as Nirmithi Kendra (Building Centre), District Tourism Council and Habitat Alliance have been replicated at the national and global level.

He has represented India in the European Council for Nuclear Research (CERN), Geneva where the Higgs Boson was discovered recently. He also represented India in the International Fusion Energy Organisation, ITER, France. Dr. Bose has also held other international assignments such as Secretary General of the Global Nirmithi Net (a UN affiliate), Member of the Governing Council of the UN-Habitat, speaker of the Global Energy Parliament, Member of the UN-Expert Committee on Affordable Housing and Chairman of the Habitat Alliance (represented in the Governing Council of the UN-Habitat). He has addressed UN-General Assembly Special Session on Habitat.

Dr. Bose has been a recipient of 22 International and National awards for his outstanding contributions in different sectors. In recognition of his pioneering efforts in the field of housing. United Nations has selected his initiatives as ‘Global Best Practice’ four times. Govt. of India awarded him the National (Special ) Habitat award.

He was the Head of the prestigious Supreme Court Committee on the treasures of ‘Sree Padmanabhaswamy Temple’ where the ‘world’s greatest treasure’ is said to be kept.

A well known speaker and debator, Dr. Bose has received 100 prizes at the University level including 15 gold medals

Educated in St. Joseph’s L P School, St. Ephrem’s High School and KE College, Mannanam, Dr. Bose joined St. Berchmans’ College, Changanacherry for his post graduation and Birla Institute of Technology & Science, Pilani for his Ph.D.

His father, Shri P K Vasudevan Pillai, was a freedom fighter. His mother was Smt. C Padmavaty Amma.
